Guide for Planning School Construction Projects; January 2003; Section 3, Part 3.07
Science Room: Shut-off valves for electricity, gas, and water must be readily accessible

Illinois State Board of Education, Department of School Improvement Planning and Assistance
(Guidebook for Science Safety in Illinois)
Page 14. Section 3.2.8

“In case of a fire or electrical accident, you should shut off gas and/or electricity in the laboratory. Master electrical and gas cut-off switches should be available in each laboratory, clearly labeled, and should be readily accessible and easy to use. A master switch in a locked cabinet or one that requires a wrench to operate will not be useful in an emergency situation.”
